In our fictional sample, Jordan’s birthday cake leans to the left and the kitchen ends up covered in flour, but he remembered that strawberries were her favorite. The story step offers two approaches. “Keep it true to our memories” tells your real story, from the first hello to now. “Make us the stars of a fictional adventure” keeps the two of you and your details but sets them somewhere new: a sailing voyage, a mystery in a snowed-in mountain hotel, a road trip across an invented country.

Questions
Can our dog be in it?
Yes. The cast step says: “Add everyone who should be in the book, people and pets.” Add a clear photo and tell us what makes your dog unmistakable, from the way an ear flops to a favorite stick.
Can it be romantic rather than funny?
Absolutely. Romantic is one of five tones, alongside Sweet, Funny, Adventure and Reflective. Choose it, then write the exact words she should find on the last page in “How should it end?”
What if I prefer not to send photos?
That’s fine. If you prefer no photos, describe the characters: her hair, her glasses, the coat she always wears. Illustrated likenesses are artistic interpretations, whether they start from a photo or a description.
