A custom proposal book that ends with the question
Tell us how you met and the moments that brought you here. We write and illustrate your story as a 32-page book, and your question waits on the final story spread.

How a storybook proposal works
A proposal book is a personalized love story book with the question saved for the end. It starts with how you met, moves through the moments that brought you here, and builds to one page they will not see coming.
The surprise ending is turned on by default for proposal books. The first page says “Don't look ahead! Read one page at a time.” and the big moment waits on the last page. We keep the reveal on the final story spread.
You give us the exact question in your own words. In the “How should it end?” field you write the words for the final story spread, up to 120 characters. The form suggests “Will you marry me?”, and you can change it to anything you like.
What we ask you for
For a proposal book, the details step of the order form asks three questions:
- How you met: The first chapter of your relationship.
- The moments that brought you here: What makes this person the one?
- The exact question: For example: Will you marry me?
Add everyone who should be in the book, people and pets. You can add up to 8 photos of each person; clear face photos work best.
You don’t need to be a writer. Write it however it comes out. A list of moments works. So does a long paragraph. Pick a tone (Sweet, Funny, Adventure, Romantic or Reflective) and a story approach: “Keep it true to our memories” or “Make us the stars of a fictional adventure.”
Keeping it a secret
A proposal only works if it stays a surprise. We send updates and proofs to the purchaser, even when the book ships as a gift.
When you reach “You & shipping,” choose Ship to: Me. The book arrives with you, not at their door, and you decide when they see it.
Your order and photos are kept in private storage and used to create and fulfill your book. We do not publish them as examples without permission.
Timing: order well before the day
Allow up to 5 business days for the first proof. A printed book typically needs about 3 weeks overall; busy periods, delayed approval, and shipping can add time. Contact us before ordering for a firm event deadline.
Your occasion date is a request, not a guaranteed delivery date. Order early and approve your proof promptly.
Proposing at Christmas or on Valentine’s Day? We recommend ordering by Tuesday, December 1, 2026 for Christmas and by Wednesday, January 20, 2027 for Valentine’s Day. These are recommendations, and dates are estimates.

Ways to propose with the book
- Where it all started. Hand them the book in the place you met. In our fictional sample book, Jordan proposes outside the bookshop where he and Maya first met.
- At home, on an ordinary evening. No reservation and no audience. Hand it over after dinner and let the story do the work.
- On a holiday. Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve and Valentine’s Day already feel like an occasion. If February 14 is your day, see our Valentine’s gift ideas.
- With family nearby. Let them read it in a quiet room while the people you love wait just outside.
- Read aloud, page by page. Sit side by side and turn the pages together. On the last spread, the question is waiting, and so are you.
- After the miles. Bring it on the visit you have been counting down to. More for couples apart: our long distance relationship gift ideas.
After the yes, a book of your story also makes a thoughtful wedding day gift for the morning of the wedding. Asking someone to prom instead? See our promposal ideas.

Questions
Will they see the book before I propose?
Proofs and order updates go to you, the purchaser, even when the book ships as a gift. Choose Ship to: Me and the book arrives with you, so you decide when they see it.
Can I change the wording after the proof?
Yes, before you approve it. A private proof and one consolidated round of corrections are included. We do not submit your book to Lulu until you approve its current version. Changes after approval may not be possible once printing starts.
What if I don’t have good photos?
Clear, well-lit photos help us keep people recognizable. Only upload images you have permission to use. If you prefer no photos, describe the characters. Illustrated likenesses are artistic interpretations.
Who writes the story?
We do, from your memories and your exact question. We use AI-assisted tools and human review to shape the writing and illustrations. You review the complete proof before we print.
Do you ship outside the U.S.?
No. We currently ship to U.S. addresses only.
